About Inside Out - painters and decorators
Tracing back my decorating background sees my father establishing a local decorating business in 1959. Many decorators gained a wide range of skills as they served their apprenticeships with him. Some stayed and worked in the business for many years after their apprenticeships had finished.
I started my four year training back in 1978. I was to be the last apprentice and worked with my father for ten years. Our business covered all aspects of the decorating trade – both domestic and industrial.
This work took us all over the country from County Durham to London. In the late 1980’s and early 1990’s, there was a great demand and revival of many traditional decorating techniques – such as marbling, wood effects and specialist glaze techniques including distressed wax finishes. We were, of course, in our element – traditional decorators with all the relevant skills to match the demand.
I am now in my early 40’s and still love the trade with all of its diversities. I cover the full range of decorating from paper hanging to tiling, specialist glaze techniques including Trompe L’oeil to handling plaster coving.
A room can be completely restyled for example from modern to Georgian-style with all the plaster cornice and panelling work or by simply changing the colour arrangement within a room to be more sympathetic with fabrics and furnishings.
I am based in the Oxfordshire area, but often still find myself travelling further a field when the need arises. I offer a friendly and professional service and have many satisfied customers.
